Hello Priddis!

For many, September brings a return to routine and the same is true for your Priddis Community Association Board. After a summer break, we are back to regular monthly meetings. Please note that the board has voted to change the meeting day from the second Monday or each month to the second Wednesday of each month.  Our next meeting is September 11th at Water’s Edge Pub at 7pm (Cafe side of restaurant).

Our popular Yoga program is back for another session this Fall. Classes take place on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7:30-8:30pm at the Priddis Hall. The next session will run from September 5- October 21 and there are only a couple of spaces left.  Please email priddisalberta@gmail.com for registration information.

Our newly refurbished tennis and pickleball courts were opened in July and have been getting a lot of use since then. Thank you again to all of our supporters who made this possible and to Foothills County for improving the parking area at the courts. We will be hosting a Grand Reopening Celebration at 11 am on Friday September 6.  All community members are welcome to join us. Refreshments will be provided.

On Thursday September 12 we will be hosting another Community Coffee Connection. Join us at the hall from 9:30-10:30am to visit with other community members, ask questions and find out what is going on in your community. This is a great way to connect whether you are new to the community or have been here for a while.

We are excited that another Priddis Panthers Hockey season is just around the corner. The Priddis Panthers welcomes all players from our community to join teams ranging from U7-U18. The Panthers are a volunteer run organization that plays in the Foothills Recreational Hockey League. Register here:

In conjunction with Foothills County, the PCA will be hosting a community meeting to discuss cyclists and parking in the hamlet and area.  All community members are welcome to attend. More details to follow but please Save the Date - Tuesday October 22 , 7pm at the Priddis Hall

The PCA is pleased to be hosting a Christmas Market this year and we are looking for vendors! The market will take place at the Priddis Hall from 10-4 on Saturday November 30th. Tables are $25. If you are a LOCAL vendor interested in participating please email priddissecretary@gmail.com

As our AGM approaches later this year, the PCA is looking for a few more directors to join the board. If you are interested in learning more about getting involved in your community in this way please email priddispresident@gmail.com

We have recently added a gate and a sign to our Hall Parking Lot.  In doing so we have been made aware that many community members and others may not realize the following:

  • We are a non-profit charitable organization run by a small group of volunteers (board members) in our community

  • Events and hall rentals help us to cover hall maintenance, utilities, signage, insurance, cleaning, garbage pick up, septic costs and much much more

  • signage costs due to insurance policy/liability insurance

In the past few months we have been working hard to ensure that the parking lot is available for weekend hall rentals as parking is limited when the hall capacity is 175 people.

We have posted messaging near the parking lot entranceway to create understanding that the Priddis Community Association parking lot is private property, owned by the community/community association, and is not public property.

This has been difficult as we have had an average of over 200 cars per day (Saturday/Sunday) of cyclists from Calgary and other areas.  They find our community very safe, beautiful and enjoy cycling on our paved backroads.  With so many cars/ 400+ cyclists it has created issues with parking during hall rentals but has also created large costs to our non profit Priddis Community Association.

On a monthly basis we are out of pocket for weekly porta potty cleaning and emptying, garbage clean up /take away, increased insurance cost & liability,  as well as volunteer hours to man gates to ensure hall renters have priority parking.  We have been closely monitoring these which are easily reaching close to $1000 per month.  Although Foothills County has helped with the porta potty costs and continues to help us with maintenance costs, we, sadly, currently have no recourse for these additional costs and impacts to our volunteers.

We have reached out to Foothills County, RCMP and businesses affected by this situation.

We are working diligently to find solutions and are open to ideas and community input.

Please check back here on our website and social media posts for any updates on this topic.

Sincerely,

Priddis Community Association Board
