Thank you to all that came out to Winterfest 2023! It was a big success with over 200 people interacting with their community. Thank you to Karla Ramsay for planning, Priddis Fire for bringing the trucks, Millarville Mutts & Mustangs for running the snack tables, the View & Brew for allowing patrons to access the county reserve parking area via their land, and to everyone else who chipped in along the way.

Here is what is coming up in Priddis:

  • Drop-in pickleball starts February 23rd. We are running 3 time sessions of 1-3pm, 3-5pm, and 5-7pm. Ideally there would be 4-5 people for each session. $5 drop-in fee payable in cash to the donation box in the hall. We are still hoping for someone to volunteer to coordinate so that the courts are being utilized in the most efficient manner.

  • Feeling jazzy? Try Jazzercise! M/W/F from 9:30-10:30. Fees are payable in cash at the door. Contact Judy (jazzed@telus.net) for more information.

  • Summer camps and preschool are open for registration. More information can be found on Rediscover Play’s website: www.rediscoverplay.com/programs

  • February 25th is the Priddis Shinny Hockey Tournament. We still have space left for just a couple of teams to enter. $150 entry per team of 6 players. Teams will play 4-on-4, and also require a goalie and one substitute. Prizes for the winning team. Register online: pca.getcommunal.com

  • Based on our recent facebook poll, the community has suggested that they would love to see a family movie night. Mark your calendars for March 18th at 6pm. This is a free event for PCA members.

  • Kids’ Clothing & Toy Swap in back on April 15th, 11a-3p at the hall. Please contact Leah (spruceandpinehome@gmail.com) if you would like to donate clothes to the swap. If you do not donate, you can still shop for a small cash fee.

  • On April 22nd we will host an evening of live music and dancing at the hall. More details to come!

If you are wanting to join all of the fun that the Priddis Community Association is hosting this year, here is the link to register for a membership if you haven’t already done so: pca.getcommunal.com

Your Priddis Community Association has a number of items to note for this month’s edition of the newsletter. It really is exciting to watch our community come back to life after years of disconnection in the world!

  • Last month we hosted the 2022 AGM. Thank you to those that came out and welcome to our two new board members!

  • Winterfest is quickly approaching on February 4th. This event is free to the Priddis Community due to a very generous donation from Meota Gas Co-op. Bring your skates to the Priddis Rink from 4-7pm and enjoy refreshments, sleigh rides, bonfires and fellow community members. We will be accepting cash donations that will contribute to the refurbishment of the pickleball and tennis courts. Volunteers are needed. Please reach out to Karla (pcahallrentals@gmail.com) if you are able to help.

  • Speaking of pickleball, with just enough space inside the community hall for a court, we are going to try to host a league starting in February. If you are interested in joining this beginner/intermediate league, please attend our information night on January 24th, 7pm at the Community Hall. We will need a passionate community member to spearhead the program. Please RSVP to Karla (pcahallrentals@gmail.com) if you are interested in participating in pickleball.

  • On February 25th, PCA will be hosting a 4-on-4 shinny hockey tournament. Teams will consist of 4 players, a spare/sub and a goalie. Entry into the tournament is $150 with registration posting and opening on January 24th at noon. Space is limited to 8 teams with 4 games guaranteed. More information and registration can be found at: pca.getcommunal.com/parent_programs

  • We have had a request to host a playing card night at the hall. Do we potentially have a community member that would be willing to coordinate this event? The board will offer support but we will need more help. Please email Casey (priddispresident@gmail.com) if you are interested in volunteering.

  • We have already started to plan children’s summer camps at the community hall for 2023. It is our hope to have 4 weeks of camp for children ages 3-12. Overnight camp is also in the works! More details will be provided in the next month.

Last but definitely not least, from time-to-time the PCA receives suggestions of community members that deserve to be recognized for their significant contributions to Priddis. This year we received nominations (see attached) for Arlene Jelfs and Sue Warren to be awarded a lifetime honorary membership. We would like to congratulate and thank both Arlene and Sue. Your efforts have made, and continue to make, Priddis the community we all know and love.

AGM

This is a friendly reminder that the PCA Annual General Meeting is scheduled at the Community Hall on December 15th at 7pm. All members in good standing are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided and your input is encouraged!

Winterfest

Join us February 4th, from 4-7pm, for horse-drawn sleigh rides, fireworks, skating, bonfires, hot chocolate and snacks! This is a by-donation event for all members. Cash will be accepted and supports future events just like this one. Volunteers are needed to run this event. Please reach out to pcahallrentals@gmail.com if you would be able to help.

Library

It has come to our attention that there was a misprint in the library schedule. The hours are as follows: Tuesday/Thursday 3:00-5:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-12:00pm.

Located near the Community Hall with the entrance being at the northeast end of the building next to the skating rink.

Community Hall

Did you know that the Community Hall is available to rent for your next event? Bookings can be made through Communal (pca.getcommunal.com) with members receiving a discount on rental fees.

Skating Rink

As a reminder, the skating rink is open to members of the Priddis Community Association. There are hundreds of volunteer hours required to build the ice and then maintain it during the winter season. Memberships support operating costs such as maintaining the much-loved Zamboni.

The Priddis Community Association would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season. We are thankful that we have the opportunity to share this beautiful community with all of you!
